Avoid These Things on Friday the 13th

Joseph Coupal - Friday, August 13, 2010

Black-cat

Hello Abberly Crest! Friday the 13th is mythed to be one of the most unluckiest days. This superstition has yet to be proven, but just in case avoid certain  things on this day.

1. Don’t do anything new. Do  not start a new job, get a new ‘do, or hangout at a new place. If anything wrong occurs friggatriskaidekaphobias (people who fear Friday the 13th) will attribute it to this date.

2. Avoid doing business. Recall 10/13/89

3. Do not summon Bloody Mary or hold séances. This may be the day the dead decides to respond to your calls.

4. Do not seat 13 people at a table. Thirteen people  were seated at the Last Supper.

5. Avoid the 13th floor. Do take the elevator or even walk up there. Avoid it altogether.

Halloween in July!

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 23, 2010

Full-Moon

It’s still summertime, the breeze is blowing and the sun is scorching.  Summer for most means blockbuster action movies, the NBA Finals and sun tan lotions.  And those of us in the workforce usually get a nice 4 day weekend for the 4th of July.  But that single, lonely summer holiday is all behind us now, and it’s time to start focusing on the next MAJOR Holiday…HALLOWEEN!  Sure, Labor Day provides a nice off-day, but it’s not as much FUN as being in your mid-20s & dressing up as “Mini Me”, so I am skipping to October 31st.

Once the last morsel of barbecue is off of my Independence Day paper plate, I am already texting or tweeting about my Halloween costume plans.  For the past couple years, it has been a smorgasbord of different costumes & alter egos for me.  I have moonlighted as the lead singer of ‘Pan!c @ the Disco’, the superhero ‘Blankman’, a construction worker (funds were kind of low that year) & The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, skin tight snakeskin pants and full blown makeup (did I mention I am in my mid-20s?!).

Which got me thinking? What will I be in 2010?  Will I be a member of Jersey Shore or shall I be Michael Jackson from the “Smooth Criminal” video?  “Decisions, Decisions!”  Luckily, I found a website that ranks the Top 100 Halloween Costume Ideas for 2010.  I am on my way to browse through the creepy & spooky, and hopefully you will join me in the search for the BEST COSTUME EVER…in 2010!  Does anyone know where I can find a Michael Jackson ‘Thrillerjacket?

How to Grill Salmon

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Hello Abberly Crest! Summer time is the season for grilling. So put your shoes on and let’s go outside. Chef Tips is demonstrating how to grill one of America’s favorite fish, salmon.  Make sure you make enough for the whole family. This oily fish will help your family get the recommended daily dose of protein and vitamin D.

1/2 cup real maple syrup
1/2 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic-shallot puree or 1 clove chopped garlic

Fourth of July Flag Recipe

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, July 01, 2010

Fruit Flag

You are hosting the 4th of July BBQ. You have ribs, chicken, potato salad, six different kinds of cake, and nothing healthy for the kids or anyone else for that matter. You don’t want to put on ten pounds in one weekend. As well, you want the kids to eat healthy, which is hard enough as it is especially since; you know the kids are good for hiding their fruits and veggies in their napkins and disposing of them. Take one of your cakes off the menu and replace it with this. It will look so cool to kids they will eat it up.

Fourth of July Flag Recipe

  1. Cut in halves the strawberries and 58 banana slices.
  2. Squeeze lemon juice on the banana slices and then place the strawberries on top of the bananas,
  3. Arrange 30 large blackberries, as shown, in the upper left corner of a serving tray or cutting board (it should be at least 8 by 13 inches).

Ingredients

  • 29 large strawberries
  • 30 large blackberries
  • 7 or so large bananas
  • Lemon juice

Now the website where I got this recipe is going for a different look than the picture shown here; so please click on the highlighted link above for more pictures and tips.
