Don’t Pack Up the Summer Wardrobe

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, September 02, 2010

Keep Your Summer Clothes by Adding Layers for Fall

Fall may be coming upon us, but that doesn’t mean that you have to pack up the summer wardrobe and put it in storage. There are several ways to incorporate your summer clothes into your fall fashion trends. Here are a few options:

Add a Blazer

There are plenty of fashionable blazers out there that you can where over your summer t-shirts. A basic colored blazer will go with just about anything. You can even wear it over the summer dress you love so much.

Layer Your Clothes

Polo style shirts are classic shirts that you can wear any season.  Both men and women can keep this short-sleeve item in their closet by adding a simple sweater over it, and as the season changes add more layers.

Women can add tights or leggings to just about anything. It is quite easy to transition a summer skirt into fall by adding tights or leggings for layers.

Spending money updating your wardrobe based on a seasonal change is not the only option. Keep your summer clothes around all year long by following the above tips.  If you need to find inspiration for layering or need additional items such as blazers, try the Old Navy located near Abberly Crest

Moving in? Don’t forget these basic safety tips.

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, August 25, 2010

So you’ve finally moved into your dream apartment! You’ve got all the furniture you need, all your clothes are in boxes and you’re locking the door as you head out for your first trip to the grocery store to fill an empty fridge. But are you sure that you’re the only one with a key?

Protect your new investment with some a few simple tasks!

Basic apartment safety is something easily forgotten with everything else going on when you move into a new home. Take a second and read over some friendly advice.

-       An unlisted home phone and only your initials or last name on your mailbox can cut down on unsolicited parties gaining access to your and your privacy.

-       If you don’t have a peephole in the front door, ask the landlord to install one. You should always be able to see who’s on the other side.

-       Pay full attention to your surroundings when entering your apartment. A preoccupied person is an easy target.

-       Purchase renter’s insurance and keep an inventory of your valuables, including serial numbers, descriptions and photos of your most valuable items. Insurance claims run a lot smoother with someone who is prepared for the worst.

Avoid These Things on Friday the 13th

Joseph Coupal - Friday, August 13, 2010

Black-cat

Hello Abberly Crest! Friday the 13th is mythed to be one of the most unluckiest days. This superstition has yet to be proven, but just in case avoid certain  things on this day.

1. Don’t do anything new. Do  not start a new job, get a new ‘do, or hangout at a new place. If anything wrong occurs friggatriskaidekaphobias (people who fear Friday the 13th) will attribute it to this date.

2. Avoid doing business. Recall 10/13/89

3. Do not summon Bloody Mary or hold séances. This may be the day the dead decides to respond to your calls.

4. Do not seat 13 people at a table. Thirteen people  were seated at the Last Supper.

5. Avoid the 13th floor. Do take the elevator or even walk up there. Avoid it altogether.

Halloween in July!

Joseph Coupal - Friday, July 23, 2010

Full-Moon

It’s still summertime, the breeze is blowing and the sun is scorching.  Summer for most means blockbuster action movies, the NBA Finals and sun tan lotions.  And those of us in the workforce usually get a nice 4 day weekend for the 4th of July.  But that single, lonely summer holiday is all behind us now, and it’s time to start focusing on the next MAJOR Holiday…HALLOWEEN!  Sure, Labor Day provides a nice off-day, but it’s not as much FUN as being in your mid-20s & dressing up as “Mini Me”, so I am skipping to October 31st.

Once the last morsel of barbecue is off of my Independence Day paper plate, I am already texting or tweeting about my Halloween costume plans.  For the past couple years, it has been a smorgasbord of different costumes & alter egos for me.  I have moonlighted as the lead singer of ‘Pan!c @ the Disco’, the superhero ‘Blankman’, a construction worker (funds were kind of low that year) & The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, skin tight snakeskin pants and full blown makeup (did I mention I am in my mid-20s?!).

Which got me thinking? What will I be in 2010?  Will I be a member of Jersey Shore or shall I be Michael Jackson from the “Smooth Criminal” video?  “Decisions, Decisions!”  Luckily, I found a website that ranks the Top 100 Halloween Costume Ideas for 2010.  I am on my way to browse through the creepy & spooky, and hopefully you will join me in the search for the BEST COSTUME EVER…in 2010!  Does anyone know where I can find a Michael Jackson ‘Thrillerjacket?

Google Images Gets a Facelift

Joseph Coupal - Thursday, July 22, 2010

Images are one of the perks that comes along with this lovely thing we call the internet.  Whether you need a picture of a poodle or the former planet Pluto, it’s only one click away.  Google, the leading search engine, launched an image search option way back in 2001.  Now in 2010, technology has come so far that 2001 seems like ancient history!

Google agreed, so they decided to revamp their image search options.  Some of the newest additions are:

  • Dense tiled layout designed to make it easy to look at lots of images at once.
  • Instant scrolling between pages, without letting you get lost in the images. Larger thumbnail previews on the results page, designed for modern browsers and high-res screens.
  • A hover pane that appears when you mouse over a given thumbnail image, giving you a larger preview, more info about the image and other image-specific features such as “Similar images.”
  • Once you click on an image, you’re taken to a new landing page that displays a large image in context, with the website it’s hosted on visible right behind it.
  • Optimized keyboard navigation for faster scrolling through many pages, taking advantage of standard web keyboard shortcuts such as Page Up / Page Down.

Use Google's New Improved Image Search

These changes will help users access specific images quicker.  There are new algorithms that will allow users to find specific species of animals, or even different shades of colors.  This is all an attempt to deliver users a chance to get the exact image they want.  So go ahead, and search for white tulips and see how specific your results are!
