So you’ve finally moved into your dream apartment! You’ve got all the
furniture you need, all your clothes are in boxes and you’re locking
the door as you head out for your first trip to the grocery store to
fill an empty fridge. But are you sure that you’re the only one with a
key?
Protect your new investment with some a few simple tasks!
Basic apartment safety
is something easily forgotten with everything else going on when you
move into a new home. Take a second and read over some friendly advice.
- An unlisted home phone and only your initials or last name on
your mailbox can cut down on unsolicited parties gaining access to your
and your privacy.
- If you don’t have a peephole in the front door, ask the
landlord to install one. You should always be able to see who’s on the
other side.
- Pay full attention to your surroundings when entering your apartment. A preoccupied person is an easy target.
- Purchase renter’s insurance and keep an inventory of your
valuables, including serial numbers, descriptions and photos of your
most valuable items. Insurance claims run a lot smoother with someone
who is prepared for the worst.
